South Africa Department of Transport Takes the Fast Track to Effective Transportation with EMC

Nonhlanhla Nyathikazi

Director of Business Systems at South Africa Department of Transportation

One of the most important components of a healthy economy is a strong and efficient transportation infrastructure – one that stimulates innovation while promoting reliability, safety and affordability.  At the Department of Transport South Africa, we are considered the “heartbeat” of economic growth and social development. Like other government bodies, our goal is to ensure transparency, accessibility, and accountability across all operations. Efficient technology is crucial to keeping the “heartbeat” pumping, and that’s why we found EMC Documentum to be a natural solution to our data management challenges.

Breaking Down Siloes and Driving Transparency

With five branches and 12 independent agencies, our Department supports various processes from responding to constituent inquiries and processing license applications, to submitting and responding to Parliament and Cabinet inquiries. While we followed a case management pattern of work, over time each agency developed and implemented its own processes and retention policies, which resulted in slow workflows, undocumented processes, and unacceptable service levels. More critical was the amount of manual processing and struggle to comply with government regulations for standardized file systems and timely access to non-classified government information.

EMC Documentum Steps Outside the ECM Box, Named Leader by Ovum

Rohit Ghai

President, Enterprise Content Division at Dell EMC

Not all Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions are created equally. Despite the commoditization in the ECM market today, there are still several important differentiators that distinguish leading, enterprise-grade ECM platforms from point solutions.  At EMC we deeply value and focus on these differentiators, so we’re excited to announce that EMC has been recognized as a leader in the biannual “Ovum Decision Matrix: Selecting and Enterprise Content Management Solution” report for our Documentum suite. Leaders – as defined by Ovum, are those ECM platform vendors worthy of a place on most technology-selection shortlists, as well as those who have an established commanding market position with a product widely accepted as best of breed.

One thing is certain … information has not only retained its status as among an organization’s most valuable assets, but is actually gaining ground.  Effectively managing it becomes even more critical. And today, we couldn’t be happier that EMC has remained a leader in Enterprise Content Management (ECM) in the recently published report: “The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Content Management, Q3, 2013”. EMC continues to be among the short list of companies to lead the pack across all Enterprise Content Management (ECM) technologies for its Documentum product suite.

Forrester evaluated 13 ECM vendors against 48 criteria across the following three key areas: current offering, strategy, and market presence. EMC scored the highest among any vendor in the current offering category for overall and business content capabilities and was among the leaders cited for their ability to address the wide range of technologies encompassing the content spectrum.

Hospital Takes a Bite Out of Electronic Medical Records Storage to Create Mounds of Big Data

Jen Sorenson

Have you ever tried to download photos off your camera to your computer, only to realize you were running out of space? Or maybe you stored an important document only to discover that it had become corrupt beyond repair. Now image that your life depended on it. That’s exactly the kind of situations St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson Mississippi has to plan for and prevent.
