Hybrid Cloud Made Easy

Josh Kahn

SVP, Global Solutions at EMC

Most IT organizations today are embracing capabilities in the public cloud, and building their own private cloud.  This combination of public and private capabilities IS a hybrid cloud and it’s where leading IT organizations are going so they can fully redefine themselves, delivering today’s applications at the lowest possible cost and enabling new applications and data-driven insights to differentiate their business.

Unfortunately, building a hybrid cloud has not been easy for many organizations.  Even building an on-premises private cloud with virtualized infrastructure, automation and self-service can become a project that fails to deliver on the vision, despite investing millions of dollars and thousands of personnel hours.  If you were around for an ERP implementation in the late 90’s this probably sounds familiar.

Simplicity and Choice? EMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Solutions Deliver Both

Peter Cutts

Senior Vice President, Hybrid Cloud Platforms at Dell EMC

Today, we’re redefining hybrid cloud. Why? Because the speed at which organizations do business is accelerating – the IT megatrends of cloud, mobile, social and big data represent a massive opportunity for companies to deliver better products, better services, and better outcomes for their customers – but to be successful every fast-moving business needs an even faster-moving IT organization. Why? Because IT is vital for almost every project’s success within an organization. IT has been helping organizations drive growth, derive more value, provide agility and reduce cost. Yet while most organizations are good at executing well-structured long-term projects where resource requirements are known, they’re usually challenged when it comes to fast-paced short-term projects with unpredictable requirements.

Cisco + EMC + VCE: Together, Our Partners Are Better

We are witnessing a major industry shift to an integrated infrastructure model that drastically simplifies IT, lowers costs and enables customers to focus on delivering business outcomes. Just look at these stats on market growth:

Cisco, EMC and VCE are at the forefront of this market, offering three distinct paths to the cloud: build your own, VSPEX reference architectures, and Vblock Systems. This is an unrivalled menu of options – and now we are making it even easier and more profitable for our business partners to help drive their customers’ journeys to the cloud through our new Cloud Infrastructure Solutions Accelerator. This carefully designed package of joint field engagement and focused sales enablement, provides partners with more opportunities to see increased demand generation, rebates and sales tools.  This initiative is a strong indication of our joint commitment to the integrated infrastructure – and to our business partners.

The Accelerator helps our top cloud infrastructure partners differentiate themselves and increase their momentum in this crucial market. It’s built on four elements: joint field engagement, custom enablement, joint marketing and incentives.

Specialized Benefits and Accelerated Opportunity:

It starts with optimized business strategy through joint planning sessions with Cisco, EMC, and VCE. These sessions will lead to a joint business plan aimed at increasing sales of Vblock Systems and VSPEX in existing and new market spaces.

We’ve created an enriched partner enablement experience with new exclusive boot camps. These are designed to fully prepare partner’s entire sales teams – sales reps and SEs – to accelerate converged and integrated infrastructure solution selling to IT, application and line-of-business owners.

Partners will have access to exclusive deal registration support through a new joint Cisco-EMC VSPEX deal desk and the existing VCE sales desk to ask specific questions about the program, eligibility rules, and the opportunity registration process.

Finally, partners can increase margins through exclusive incremental and stackable rebates and incentives. And they can generate more demand with access to new campaigns and incremental marketing development funding.

Experts Required

The Accelerator is not available for every business partner. We’re opening the program only to those partners who’ve shown strong commitment to the cloud infrastructure market, and attained key credentials that demonstrate their technical expertise: either a VCE Gold or Silver partner, OR a VSPEX-enabled EMC Solution Provider Signature Partner with Cisco Data Center Architecture.

Taken together with joint Cisco, EMC, and VCE Cloud Infrastructure solutions (including a growing range of VSPEX solutions), the Accelerator makes it simpler for partners to align their sales motion to this growing market and help their clients increase agility and improve operational efficiency.

Enter Cisco’s InterCloud, Where Cisco Partnering with EMC Provides Choice

Brent Slone

Technical Partner Lead, EMC Product Operations & Solutions at EMC

Today Cisco announced Cisco InterCloud as a means through which customers can lower total cost of ownership while and paving the way for interoperable and highly secure public, private and hybrid clouds. As longstanding strategic partners, EMC is working closely with Cisco on unique and innovative ways to combine InterCloud and EMC technologies for data management between public and private clouds.

Cloud computing promises many things. One of the most appealing benefits to the business is Choice. The ability to decide what is best for your environment and workload. The Choice that enables businesses to place workloads in private or public cloud, on-prem or off-prem based on specific requirements of that particular workload. This choice gives IT the flexibility to be in control and avoid vendor lock-in.

EMC continues to deliver choice for customers with its best-of-breed storage portfolio as well as choice in terms of where to deploy different workloads. Accelerating deployment of private clouds and public clouds are EMC’s offerings in Integrated Infrastructure – VCE Vblock truly converged infrastructure and VSPEX proven infrastructure. Both are leaders in their respective categories as evidenced by the recent Gartner Research report. EMC has built a robust service provider program with over 100 SP partners delivering over 450 services to provide additional choice to customers.

Building on our shared vision of enabling mobility and choice, EMC fully embraces Cisco’s InterCloud platform as a technology to enable workload mobility and to ensure that customers get the optimal IT and business value from their cloud providers (internal and public). Announced today, InterCloud is designed to be a highly secure hybrid cloud solution that allows applications to run in a public cloud as if they were on a customer’s private enterprise network. This announcement is a logical extension of Cisco and EMC’s shared leadership in converged infrastructure and deploying cloud environments for our customers. InterCloud is hypervisor-agnostic (a.k.a. choice) and also supports bare-metal applications (a.k.a. choice), offering the flexibility so crucial to today’s cloud infrastructure decisions.

You may already be familiar with the EMC VPLEX solution, the industry’s first and only true active-active data virtualization solution. VPLEX technology allows customers to stretch clusters, like VMware ESXi and Oracle RAC, across data centers.  InterCloud stretches the enterprise network to a cloud provider and VPLEX technology provides active-active data access over distance. You can begin to see where the possibilities for cloud mobility are headed. Watch this space for more in the coming weeks.

What else is possible? Think EMC RecoverPoint, which provides traditional disaster protection and an interesting “any point in time” recovery option. It’s just like rewind on your DVR. What if you could run RecoverPoint software in a cloud provider for simple, low-cost DR?

Where is all this going?  If you’ve been doing virtualization for a while, you know that networking is the hard part. Cisco’s InterCloud makes that part easier. EMC is doing our part on cloud-ready storage solutions that are easy to deploy. Stay tuned to see how it will all work together, enabling easier movement of workloads between private and public clouds.

EMC VNX Helps Van Meter Bust Through Cloud Roadblock, Transform Productivity

EMC Pulse

The housing market at times can be ruthless; the economic downturn in early 2013 was exhibit number one. Those companies serving this market that made some tough, but smart decisions emerged the victors.  Others, not so much. Enter Van Meter Inc. (VMI), a supplier of electrical and mechanical products, services and solutions. VMI took control of their own destiny, made strategic alliances and acquisitions and, if that wasn’t enough, undertook a complete transformation of their IT infrastructure.

Jason Sinclair, a systems engineer at VMI, recently spoke to us about the impact on VMI’s IT infrastructure once the company decided to turbo-charge sales growth, acquire new companies and expand into new markets. The VMI IT team faced serious challenges associated with data growth in their IBM storage environment. “Our IBM storage was running short on performance and capacity. Even more challenging was that our private cloud and virtualization strategy was held back—we couldn’t get beyond 20% virtualization.”
