GitHub Initiative Spurs Innovation

Jeroen van Rotterdam

CTO, ECD at EMC Corporation

Albert Einstein is noted as saying, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”

It’s the same way that we think about developers: they have the imagination to always look for ways to help turn groundbreaking ideas into operational realities. And as innovators ourselves, we’re right there with them.

That’s why today, EMC’s Enterprise Content Division (ECD) is proud to announce enhancements to its developer program by making open source code accessible to users on GitHub. The initiative provides free sample code across a variety of ECD products to help our partners and customers develop new and exciting solutions based on industry-leading content management technology. ECD is building on a growing EMC presence on GitHub, which includes numerous open source contributions such as CoprHD, REX-Ray and RackHD being driven through EMC {code}.”

The feedback from our partners has already been positive. Jeroen Jansen, CEO from Informed Consulting shared this comment with me, The GitHub initiative opens up new possibilities for us. Not only does this program supply valuable code to kick start our projects, but it also provides a collaborative environment for innovation from where we can share and grow our expertise and a direct technical channel of communication with the product experts at ECD.”

GitHub

GitHub.com provides a home where developers can store software projects and network with likeminded people, fostering growth and collaboration. As the largest online storage space of collaborative works in the world, GitHub.com allows its community of more than 12 million developers to discover, use, and contribute to over 31 million projects using a powerful collaborative development workflow. With its intuitive user interface, GitHub gives ECD the opportunity to co-promote partner software and share useful code.

Sample code for the EMC Documentum platform is currently available on the GitHub site, with additional ECD code samples coming in the future. Access to the GitHub.com site is open to the public. Users can simply identify projects that are relevant to their business and contribute. Developers can also collaborate with an established EMC community of highly technical contributors across engineering and product teams.

The availability of ECD sample code, EMC’s investment in co-innovation programs, and our Developer Track at Momentum at EMC World, are just a few examples of how we support the developer community. We expect that this initiative will increase interactions and provide additional tools to our users to optimize visibility and inspire new forms of innovation.

We’re excited to see how partners, customers, and startups will leverage the power of GitHub to reimagine the future as organizations undergo digital transformation.

EMC Announces Provider Cloud System, A Reference Architecture to Simplify Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI)

Anton Prenneis

Telecom Transformation Technology Architect at EMC

Last year at Mobile World Congress, EMC announced its intent to supply NFV solutions to the communications service provider market. In 2016, EMC returns to Barcelona to share progress toward meeting that goal.

Over the course of 2015, EMC learned that communications service providers are choosing between one of two approaches to Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) adoption. The first is to dedicate in-house development teams to multiyear transformation projects, working with open source and homegrown components to develop bespoke NFV infrastructure (NFVI) architectures. The second approach is more incremental, deploying a select set of virtualized network functions (VNFs) on a pre-integrated, turnkey NFVI platform that delivers quick time-to-value and ease of operation.

A Match Made in Heaven: Announcing XtremIO’s AppSync iCDM Starter Bundle

Andy Fenselau

XtremIO Senior Director of Product Marketing at EMC

The heart of EMC XtremIO’s breakthrough workload consolidation and business process agility benefits is our integrated Copy Data Management (iCDM). As discussed in a separate blog, iCDM is the unique integration to consolidate both primary production data and its non-production copies on the same scale-out all-flash array. Today we announce our newest XtremIO data service: the free bundling of EMC AppSync services with every XtremIO array for powerful application and database integration, orchestration, and self-service. We believe no other array (and no other all-flash array) offers this!

The EMC AppSync iCDM Starter Bundle software is a critical enabler in the iCDM stack for true application integration and orchestration for Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange, and VMware environments. The AppSync iCDM Starter Bundle is a full-featured standard AppSync solution that supports unlimited unmounted copies for data protection and up to 20 simultaneously mounted copies per array for test/dev and analytics. And of course all of our existing XtremIO customers are entitled to free downloads as well!

Cameron Shove

Director of IT Operations at Protection 1

Protection 1 is one of the nation’s largest full service security companies. We protect residences and businesses around the clock, around the country.

I like to think that we’re no protection 1different from any other IT organization in this: we have two primary imperatives to meet. The first is the business mandate: Be Available Always. Since we’re in the life-saving business, that’s especially important to us. The second is the technology mandate: Do More with Less.
