As Strata + Hadoop World kicks off in San Jose this week, the Dell EMC team will be there in full force. In addition to our long history supporting Cloudera Hadoop with Dell EMC solutions, we’re also broadening our support with a new, open-standards based Dell EMC Ready Bundle for Hortonworks Hadoop offering.

There is clearly growing interest in this area, but during my five years managing Hadoop products for Dell EMC, I frequently hear prospective customers say, “I understand the value of Hadoop, but I don’t know where to start.” They know Hadoop is an innovative technology that offers unique opportunities as a foundation for capitalizing on the untapped values of big data; however, customers say that one or more of the following blockers are getting in the way of a successful project launch:

  • We don’t have the skill set in my organization to pull it off
  • We’ve spent a lot of time and effort on the front-end work and don’t have much to show for it

Dell EMC Opens Up New Brownfield Opportunities for Energy Organizations

Andy Crowne

Vice President Industry Solutions and InfoArchive at Dell EMC

In the energy industry, shrinking margins driven by competition and new sources of energy are forcing an increased focus on improving operational efficiency. Organizations must center their attention on activities that prolong the life of their existing assets, known as ‘brownfield projects’, as a key to remaining viable.

Today at Momentum 2016 in Barcelona, we introduced a new solution and a new consulting service, as well as the evolution of other solutions for the energy and engineering (E&E) industry.

With these releases, we are reinforcing our commitment to providing content solutions which enable services that range from streamlining exploration efforts to bridging asset operations and brownfield projects and beyond, all designed to create greater functionality and lower TCO.

Increasing Accessibility and Flexibility While Solving Analytics and Compliance Challenges

Andy Crowne

Vice President Industry Solutions and InfoArchive at Dell EMC

Regulatory compliance investigations, exams, and even litigation actions are very common for organizations in highly regulated industries like financial services. The problem our customer often face is how best to respond to these potentially laborious and costly actions. Today’s corporations require a flexible solution that can preserve the value of enterprise information – to comply with retention and compliance requirements – in an easily accessible, unified archive.

We have listened to our customers, and today in at Momentum 2016 Barcelona, we announced our Dell EMC InfoArchive 4.2 solution will be generally available by the end of 2016. The newest version enables large-scale application retirement, optimization of production environments and facilitates application data integration and reuse – supporting new users, cloud applications and analytics. It also enhances the ability for administrators and knowledge workers to search and export data managed by the InfoArchive platform.

Modern Data Centers Require Data Protection Everywhere

Beth Phalen

SVP of Core Technology, Data Protection and Availability Solutions at EMC

Data protection everywhere is a fundamental requirement of the modern data center – no matter where data lives, no matter what happens. But every IT organization is in a different place in their data protection journey – some are quickly moving to a modern infrastructure-centric model, where data management and protection are tightly integrated with underlying infrastructure and applications, while the majority of organizations are still using traditional backup tools. No matter where a customer is on this journey, EMC has them covered. That’s why we’re excited about our latest innovations, launched today at EMC World 2016.
