Through its Connectrix brand, EMC delivers connectivity for the modern data center that enables a broad range of customer storage applications, from application environments like Oracle, SAP and Microsoft to backup, archiving, and disaster protection over distance. As customers move to all flash storage systems, it’s important to ensure that the storage network is updated to keep pace. Today we’re announcing the general availability of the new Connectrix MDS-9718, designed for the hyper consolidation requirements of the modern data center, which supports sixteen switching modules and 768 line rate 16Gb/s Fibre Channel ports. As the industry’s highest port density, “devops friendly” programmable director, it delivers both value and performance.
Truth be told, EMC has had a different attitude about IP storage networks than FC SANs. Although we have tested FC SAN technologies for 15+ years, like the rest of the industry, we assumed IP ‘just works’. For the most part that statement is true. Now we have a new perspective. Growth in IP storage technologies is putting old ideas to the test. Traditional shared networks weren’t designed for today’s IP storage workloads.
To help our customers design and deploy high-performance, highly-available and scalable Enterprise Hybrid Clouds, EMC is introducing the new Connectrix VDX-6740B IP Storage Switch. With this introduction, EMC now offers an additional option for customers to enhance their IP storage experience for systems, including EMC’s Data Domain, Isilon, VMAX, VNX and XtremIO.
At EMC World 2003, EMC and Cisco announced that together we were delivering the next generation of Storage Area Network technology. Since that time, tens of thousands of Cisco’s MDS family of Fibre Channel systems, sold and serviced by EMC under the Connectrix brand, have been deployed in some of the world’s most-business critical SAN environments at some of the world’s biggest companies.
Today EMC is announcing the availability of the EMC Connectrix® MDS-9710. This new 16Gb director demonstrates once again how EMC and Cisco are extending our commitment to storage networking and, more specifically, Fibre Channel. The Connectrix MDS Series enables customers to scale their EMC VMAX®, VNX® and VPLEX® storage networks with excellent performance, rich features and high availability.
